Pierce journalism students brought home 11 awards in eight different categories Saturday night while both campus publications were honored for excellence at the Journalism Association of Community Colleges (JACC) annual conference.
The popular event attracted community colleges from across Southern California and boasted mail-in and on-the-spot competitions in a range of categories including writing, design and photography.

Pierce College Media Arts students were honored with awards at the department’s spring 2014 Banquet on Monday, June 9. Students and staff met at Maggiano’s for lunch and the presentation of departmental awards.
The awards are given every semester to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the students involved with The Roundup, The Bull, KPCRadio and in cinema and media arts classes. The Roundup newspaper, the student-run campus publication for Pierce College, has won a first place award from the American Scholastic Press Association.
The American Scholastic Press Association (ASPA), which is open to campus newspapers across the country, wrote that the Roundup is an “excellent” school newspaper, “which shows the creativity and journalistic knowledge of your editors, reporters, writers, photographers, layout/graphics designers and advisor.”
