The Roundup newspaper, the student-run campus publication for Pierce College, has won a first place award from the American Scholastic Press Association.
The American Scholastic Press Association (ASPA), which is open to campus newspapers across the country, wrote that the Roundup is an “excellent” school newspaper, “which shows the creativity and journalistic knowledge of your editors, reporters, writers, photographers, layout/graphics designers and advisor.”
The ASPA’s recognition is for the Roundup’s fall 2013 semester, when Calvin Alagot was the editor in chief. Alagot served as the EIC of the Roundup during the spring and fall 2013 semesters. He is currently an intern at L.A. Weekly and taking general education courses at Pierce College.
The Roundup is published weekly in print and each day online at www.theroundupnews.com. Students must be enrolled in Media Arts Department classes to work for the Roundup. There are three full-time advisers: Jill Connelly, Jeff Favre and Stefanie Frith.
