The Roundup, Pierce College’s weekly student newspaper, won the 2019 Associated Collegiate Press Pacekmaker Award for two-year colleges. It was one of only four publications, out of 160 entries, to win the award. The Roundup editors-in-chief for the winning semesters were Joshua Manes and Natalie Miranda.
The announcement was made at the Fall National College Media Convention on Nov. 2 in Washington, D.C.
Each year, ACP presents collegiate journalism’s preeminent national award, the Pacemaker. In addition to demonstrating excellence in key areas, including coverage, writing, editing, design and photography, the winning newspapers took risks and served as a strong voice for the student audience.
“The best newspapers didn’t just recap campus events, they delivered tenacious in-depth reporting and impartial and objective coverage,” said Gary Lundgren, associate director and coordinator of the Pacemaker Awards competition.
