Pierce College Media Arts students received recognition at the Journalism Association of Community Colleges state convention in Sacramento last weekend.

Two Pierce students received honorable mention in “on-the-spot” contests held at the convention — Victor Rodriguez for opinion writing and Sebastian Cornejo for news photo. In the mail-in competition, The Roundup newspaper and The Bull Magazine won for general excellence. David Hawkins received third place for magazine photo, Calvin B. Alagot won third place for newspaper feature photo, and the Roundup staff received honorable mention for editorial.

More than 400 students, speakers, judges, faculty and vendors were scheduled to attend the 62nd annual conference. The event, which ran Thursday through Saturday, included contests and workshops.
