The Pierce College Film Club will be screening student films during the Spring 2019 Film Fest Monday, May 13 at 7 p.m. in the Great Hall. There will be cash prizes awarded for the best films and light refreshments will be provided. The event is sponsored by ASO. Don't miss out!
The Pierce College Media Arts Department and the Film Club will use the film series dubbed “Coping Mechanisms” to examine how cinematic characters use fantasy to cope with their own traumatic or unpleasant realities.
Light refreshments will be provided and after each film a small panel will help students discuss events in the movie.
The first film “Big Fish” will be shown Monday, Oct. 29 from 1p.m. to 4p.m. followed by a panel featured Journalism Professor Jeff Favre.

Allan Kartun shared his experience as a veteran television director with an eager crowd of aspiring artists and cinema and journalism students Monday, Oct. 1.

Pierce College Media Arts Department students took home medals from the SkillsUSA California State Championships on Sunday.
Joshua Manes and Cameron Kern won gold for Audio/Radio Production. Angel Arauz-Diaz and Neiman Lofton won gold for Digital Cinema Production. Shae Hammond won silver for Photography.
The gold medalists in each category qualify for the national championships in Louisville, Ky. in late June.
The state championship was held at the Ontario Convention Center in Ontario, California. The contestants competed against other community college students from around the state....

This semester's film series will kick off Wednesday, April 11 at 7 p.m. with a screen of "Sunset Boulevard" in the Great Hall.
The film series, organized by the Pierce College Media Arts Department and the Film Club, features three films, each followed by a panel discussion with students, professors and industry professionals. This semester's theme is Los Angeles.

The Academy Award-winning film "Moonlight" will be shown at the Pierce College Great Hall on Thursday, April 27 at 6:30 p.m.
A panel discussion and question-and-answer session will follow the screening, and refreshments will be served.
The event is presented by the Media Arts and Philosophy departments.

The Pierce College Media Arts Department and Film Club will show three films which question the border between sanity and insanity.
The three-film screening series will feature panels and question-and-answer sessions. The events, sponsored by the ASO, will take place at the Great Hall.
"Taxi Driver" will be shown Monday, April 17 from 2-5 p.m. "American Psycho" is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3 from 7-10 p.m. "The Tenant" will close out the series Tuesday, May 16 from 7-10 p.m.
The series is called "What's In Sanity?"

It's not too late to sign up for a shortened class this Spring semester. The Pierce College Media Arts Department is offering two late-start classes: History & Aesthetics of Photography B (3 units), PHOTOGRAPHY 027B, and Understanding Motion Pictures (3 units), CINEMA 107.

A film and television producer who has worked on "Big Brother" and "Hell's Kitchen" will speak Thursday, March 2 at Pierce College in Woodland Hills.
Jeremy Wagener is scheduled to speak at the Great Hall at 11 a.m. Admission is free and open to students, staff, faculty and community members.
Wagener has lived in Los Angeles and worked in the television and film industry for more than a decade. His feature film directing debut "Chicks, Man" was released on video and DVD in 2001.
