Fall film series schedule announced

The Media Arts Department and Film Club announced the schedule for the 2016 film series. The series will focus on movies and television programs that depict our modern, plugged-in reality. The first event will be a screening of "her" on Oct. 12 from 7-10 p.m. Each screening will be followed by a panel discussion with students and faculty, and refreshments will be served. Emmy-winning filmmakers screen latest project

In time for the Halloween season, Pierce College Media Arts Department adjunct instructors - husband and wife  Daria Matza and Mark Devendorf - will screen their documentary about giant pumpkins Oct. 30 in the college's Great Hall. "Rise of the Giants," which chronicles the 2013 competition to grow the world's largest pumpkin, is the latest in more than a dozen films Matza and Devendorf have created. For this project they spent more than a year following a tight-knit community of growers who harvest gigantic pumpkins that can increase in weight up to 50 pounds in one day. The Pierce College Media Arts Department released its latest magazine showcasing the department, alumni and its new transfer degree. The magazine is available online now and in newsstands during the fall semester.

On the evening of July 29, a feature film currently in post production, "What About Love" was screened in the Summer Session Cinema 107 class of Adjunct Assistant Professor Steve Anderson. Pierce College cinema instructor Vincent Brook will discuss his new book, “Land of Smoke and Mirrors: A Cultural History of Los Angeles” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2012 at the Autry in Griffith Park. June 2012— A variety of film projects were showcased during Crossfade, a free student film festival hosted recently by Los Angeles Mission College and Pierce College at Laurel Canyon Stages in Arleta.
