The 37th Annual Photo Salon will open May 14 and you can now submit your photos to be entered into the show.
Submission Requirements:
-Work Must be Photographic in Nature (no mixed media).
-Work must be mounted on either 11x14 or 16x20 Mountboard. No Frames or Glass.
-Digital Files will need to be submitted also in the Digital Darkroom on the Server (.jpg or .psd).
-Entrants must be or have been enrolled in a Photo Class either Fall 2013 or Spring 2014.
-No more than 3 Mounted Images may be submitted.
Deadline for submission is May 2, 2014.
Show Dates: May 14 - May 28. Opening: May 14.

KTLA reporter Kimberly Cheng will be in the Great Hall at 11:15 a.m. Monday, April 28 discussing what it is like to cover the city of Los Angeles.
Cheng is a graduate of USC and has reported in Phoenix for an ABC affiliate and Palm Springs for a CBS affiliate. She has been an anchor, producer, reporter and red carpet host. Cheng is Cambodian-Chinese-American and her parents and siblings came to the U.S. as refugees. Her first job was selling doughnuts and coffee in her parents’ shop. Cheng says her parents’ struggles are what motivate her to succeed.

“Sudden Impact,” a group exhibition featuring San Fernando Valley art institutions, including work by Pierce College Media Arts Department students and faculty, will have its opening night from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21 at 18640 Ventura Blvd., Tarzana.
The exhibition is presented by 11:11 A Creative Collective, a traveling gallery that will feature work by artists from around the San Fernando Valley. Former Pierce College photography student Erin Stone is co-coordinating the effort. Gallery hours are 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The exhibition will run through March 9.

An Emmy award winning television editor whose work includes "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," "The Bachelor" and "VH1's Behind The Music" will be the next person to participate in the Media Arts Speaker Series at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11.
Jeff Savenick will visit Pierce as part of the Pierce College Media Arts Department Speaker Series, a free program that welcomes esteemed speakers from the radio, film, journalism and website worlds. His talk is called “How to discover you life’s path and create early success.”

Pierce College architecture and photography students created several works inspired by the Getty Museum’s “Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in L.A.”
These talented students engaged in photographic explorations of the sociological significance of architecture in the San Fernando Valley using the themes of transportation, residence, community magnets, car culture, and entertainment and culture as their point of departure. The results are a collectively beautiful, eclectic insight into the constructions that define how we live as Angelenos.

“Urban Sight” is an exhibition featuring photographs by students from the Department of Art and Architecture and Media Arts Department at Pierce College. The exhibition opens Thursday November 14 and runs through Wednesday December 11. The opening reception will be on Thursday November 14 from 6 to 8pm at the Pierce College Art Gallery, Room 3301. This event is free and open to the public.

Monday, Oct. 14, 2013— Media Arts Department students representing the newspaper and magazine at Pierce College took home 19 awards from the Journalism Association of Community Colleges Southern California conference in Fullerton, Calif. on Oct. 11 and 12.
There were 23 Media Arts Department students who participated in the two-day Journalism Association of Community Colleges SoCal Conference at Cal State Fullerton, which included workshops and on-the-spot competitions. Several Pierce students took home first place awards for their photography and articles.

Award-winning broadcaster Tracie Savage will be in the Great Hall discussing what it takes to make it in the cutthroat news reporting business at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 as part of the Media Arts Department Speaker Series.
Savage is a long-time radio broadcaster who has won four L.A. area Golden Mike Awards and two L.A. area Emmy Awards. Savage was on air when President Obama was elected and the day Michael Jackson died. She has covered floods, fires and riots, and has done sports and traffic reporting. KROQ’s Lisa May will be in the Great Hall at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 21 discussing what it’s like to be a part of the Kevin and Bean Show.
May has been part of the Kevin And Bean Show on 106.7 KROQ for the past 22 years, acting as side-kick, traffic reporter and the only voice of reason. She has also done background looping on shows including “Alias,” “Brothers and Sisters” and the upcoming “Mistresses” on CBS. She is also a member of Therapy Dogs International with Rudy, her 4 1/2 pound Chihuahua.
