Work from students in beginning digital photography, advanced digital photography, photojournalism and independent study classes at Pierce College will be on display at the Library and Learning Crossroads Building starting Tuesday, May 7 and running through May 23.
The opening reception will take place Tuesday, May 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the library on the second floor, near the faculty offices. The reception will offer light refreshments.

Pierce College students participated in a Student Photography Installation during the Getty Museum's College Night in Los Angeles April 15, 2013.
The students from the Media Arts and Architecture Departments have been participating in an architectural photo class in conjunction with the Getty's Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in L.A. along with three other Los Angeles area community colleges: Santa Monica College, College of the Canyons and East Los Angeles College. Their work will also be exhibited in the art gallery at Pierce in the fall.

The assistant features digital editor for the Los Angeles News Group will be in the Great Hall discussing her role as a multimedia reporter at 7 p.m. Monday, April 22 as part of the Media Arts Department Speaker Series.
Mariecar Mendoza was recently named the assistant features digital editor. Before that, she was a general assignment multimedia reporter for the Los Angeles Daily News in Woodland Hills. In that role she covered local news, including the manhunt for former LAPD officer Christopher Dorner.

Pierce College cinema instructor Vincent Brook will discuss his new book, “Land of Smoke and Mirrors: A Cultural History of Los Angeles” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2012 at the Autry in Griffith Park.
Brook, who is also a media and cultural students professor at USC, UCLA and Cal State L.A. will sign copies of the book following the discussion.
“Land of Smoke and Mirrors” uncovers Hollywood’s version of Los Angeles, using films including “Mi Familia,” “Boyz N the Hood” and “Falling Down.”

Media Arts Department students representing the newspaper, magazine and radio station at Pierce College took home nearly 40 awards from the Journalism Association of Community Colleges Southern California conference in Fullerton, Calif. Oct. 5 and 6, 2012.
The Roundup newspaper and Bull Magazine received General Excellence awards. Students also won several first place awards, including newswriting, web broadcast news, student-designed ad and magazine photo essay.

The Pierce College Media Arts Department hosted about 40 local high school journalism students recently as part of newspapers2, a four-day workshop featuring news writing, design and online reporting classes.
Faculty members Amara Aguilar, Jeff Favre and Stefanie Frith taught the classes at Pierce. Newspapers2 is owned by Konnie Krislock, a long-time high school journalism adviser.

June 2012— A variety of film projects were showcased during Crossfade, a free student film festival hosted recently by Los Angeles Mission College and Pierce College at Laurel Canyon Stages in Arleta.
Three works by Pierce College students were showcased: “The Dream” by Jonathan Saeidian, “Infinity Haze” by Manual Balthazar and “The Price of Divorce,” by Michelle Basche.
