Media Arts Department Speaker Series to kick off again

KNX 1070 radio anchors, documentary filmmaker, multimedia producer to visit Pierce College this spring

This semester the Pierce College Media Arts Department will welcome esteemed speakers from the radio, film and website worlds as part of its Speaker Series events in the Great Hall.

The free events are a semester-long effort funded by the ASO.

Refreshments will be served. Parking is available for $2 in Lot 1, near the Sheriff’s Station off Brahma Drive and Winnetka Avenue.

  • Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.:  Liz O. Baylen of the Los Angeles Times was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for her contribution to the Washington Times’ coverage of the D.C. sniper in 2002. She joined the L.A. Times as a staff photographer in 2007. Since arriving, she has worked on multimedia projects, combining sound and imagery to provide added dimension to stories.

 

  • Tuesday, March 22 at noon: Tommy Jaxson and Randy Kerdoon from KNX 1070 AM will discuss how they got their start at Pierce College’s KPCR radio station in the 1970s and are now leading the Los Angeles area’s only all-news radio station’s traffic and sports coverage. Kerdoon has been honored with 10 Golden Mike’s including Best Sports Reporting. Jaxson has also worked for KFI, KOST and KBIG.

 

  • Wednesday, May 18 at 3 p.m.: Scott Anger has helped produced six feature-length documentary films including “Homefront” (Showtime) and “Witnesses to a Secret War” (PBS). He has worked for TIME, Newsweek and The New York Times and most recently was the director of video at the Los Angeles Times. From 1998 to 2000 Anger was the bureau chief for Voice of America’s Islamabad office.
