Pierce College Media Arts Department students took home medals from the SkillsUSA California State Championships on Sunday.

Joshua Manes and Cameron Kern won gold for Audio/Radio Production. Angel Arauz-Diaz and Neiman Lofton won gold for Digital Cinema Production. Shae Hammond won silver for Photography.

The gold medalists in each category qualify for the national championships in Louisville, Ky. in late June.

The state championship was held at the Ontario Convention Center in Ontario, California. The contestants competed against other community college students from around the state. They arrived Thursday evening and worked on projects related to their disciplines Friday and Saturday.

Each contestant reached the state championships by winning the regional contest in February.
