Pierce photography on display in LA museum

Pierce College architecture and photography students created several works inspired by the Getty Museum’s “Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in L.A.”

These talented students engaged in photographic explorations of the sociological significance of architecture in the San Fernando Valley using the themes of transportation, residence, community magnets, car culture, and entertainment and culture as their point of departure. The results are a collectively beautiful, eclectic insight into the constructions that define how we live as Angelenos.

Their work will be part of an exhibition called “Building Site” on display Saturday, Feb. 1 through Friday, Feb. 14 at the Architecture and Design Museum. The opening reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m.  Saturday, Feb. 1 and will include light refreshments. The Pierce College photographs will be shown along with work by students from USC, College of the Canyons, East Los Angeles College and Santa Monica College.

The Pierce College class was advised by photo instructor Gerard Burkhart. Assistant Professor of Art Monika del Bosque is the exhibition designer for the photographic portion of the show.  Nicholas Part and Annabelle Bonebrake of last fall’s Exhibition Design class at Pierce (and who assisted on the design and install of the Urban Sight exhibition) are interning with del Bosque to do install for the Building Site exhibition.
