Wednesday, May 18, 2011: An award-winning documentary filmmaker whose features have appeared on Showtime and FRONTLINE on PBS will be at Pierce College at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 in the Great Hall as part of the Media Arts Department Speaker Series.
Scott Anger has helped produced six feature-length documentary films including “Home Front” (Showtime) and “Witnesses to a Secret War” (PBS). He has worked for TIME, Newsweek and The New York Times and most recently was the director of video at the Los Angeles Times. From 1998 to 2000 Anger was the bureau chief for Voice of America’s Islamabad office.
The speaking engagement is part of the Media Arts Department’s semester-long Speaker Series, which is funded by the ASO. Faculty can receive flex credit for attending.
Refreshments will be served. Parking is available for $2 in Lot 1, near the Sheriff’s Station off Brahma Drive and Winnetka Avenue.

Scott Anger is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, journalist and technology entrepreneur. He is the founder of Pandau, a company that specializes in creating multi-platform documentary projects, and is a founding partner in SwellRide, a social network for the worldwide surfing community.
Scott recently served as the Director of Video at The Los Angeles Times, where he oversaw editorial content, developed video strategy and grew online video viewership by more than three-hundred percent.
As a filmmaker and director of photography, Scott helped produce seven films for flagship documentary program FRONTLINE on PBS, including two that have been awarded the Alfred I. duPont Award for Excellence in Journalism, television’s highest journalism award.
In addition to his current affairs work, Scott has helped produce six feature-length documentary films: Home Front (SHOWTIME), Greensboro; Closer to the Truth (PBS/theatrical),Witnesses to a Secret War (PBS), Live in Limbo (independent/theatrical), The Lost Bird Project and Regeneration (in production). He has also directed, produced, shot and edited non-fiction work for clients such as The International Rescue Committee, Starbucks Coffee and the Open Society Foundations.
Scott teaches storytelling and documentary production techniques at workshops by the National Press Photographers Association, Western Kentucky University, Syracuse University and University of California, Los Angeles. He sits on the advisory board of Brooks Institute of Visual Arts and consults with organizations about media strategy, audience engagement and content distribution on emerging platforms. Scott has been a panelist and lecturer at a number of industry gatherings including the TriBeca Film Festival and the BBC’s annual corporate meeting in London.
He is a Studio Artist in residence at the Angels Gate Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
