June 2012— A variety of film projects were showcased during Crossfade, a free student film festival hosted recently by Los Angeles Mission College and Pierce College at Laurel Canyon Stages in Arleta.
Three works by Pierce College students were showcased: “The Dream” by Jonathan Saeidian, “Infinity Haze” by Manual Balthazar and “The Price of Divorce,” by Michelle Basche.
“It was a great event and a wonderful opportunity for our students to get hands-on experience as well as to show their awesome films,” Karin Stellwagen, Pierce College assistant professor of cinema.
In addition to the film festival, Crossfade featured demonstrations from industry professionals and included hands-on experience. Film professionals assisted students in creating a short scene using RED Digital Cinema cameras, J.L Fisher Dollies and Mole Richardson Lighting.
The showcase of student work included documentary, animation, television commercials, narrative comedy and drama shorts and music videos. The festival showed the hard work and dedication students put into their craft and the possibility of a bright future in the Media Arts, Curtis Stage, Mission College multimedia department chair said.
This is the eighth year that Crossfade has taken place. A total of 32 films were shown from Mission and Pierce and two area high schools (Cesar Chavez Charter and Sylmar High School).
