Pierce Media Arts students took home five state publication awards from the Journalism Association of Community Colleges for the 2020-2021 year. Two awards were for top honors in their respective categories.

On Friday, Dec. 11, the Media Arts Department hosted a virtual awards ceremony for students who took courses during the fall semester. Awards were given for photography, journalism, stop motion films, podcasts, and more.

Students in the Media Arts department were awarded for their classwork and contributions to the department's publications at Maggiano's on Friday, Dec. 6.
The end-of-semester banquet, which celebrated student work in The Bull Magazine, the Roundup newspaper, KPCRadio and Media Arts classes overall, hosted around 50 students, faculty, staff and friends of the department.

Pierce College Media Arts Department students took home medals from the SkillsUSA California State Championships on Sunday.
Joshua Manes and Cameron Kern won gold for Audio/Radio Production. Angel Arauz-Diaz and Neiman Lofton won gold for Digital Cinema Production. Shae Hammond won silver for Photography.
The gold medalists in each category qualify for the national championships in Louisville, Ky. in late June.

Students from the Pierce College newspaper and magazine won more than 20 awards over the weekend at the Journalism Association of Community Colleges state conference in Burbank.
The Roundup received an award for newspaper general excellence and online general excellence, and The Bull won for magazine general excellence.
Students from community colleges across the state competed in mail-in and on-the-spot contests. The mail-in contests were open to articles and photographs published in the last year.

Pierce College is one of the many schools that attended Southern California’s Regional Journalism Association of Communication Colleges event in order to stack up awards, taking home 18 this year.
Twenty community colleges were registered to attend with at least 232 students signed up. More than 200 students gathered in the Titan Student Union Pavilion at Cal State Fullerton to undergo a day long event including workshops and on-the-spot contests in hopes of winning awards at the end of the night.
